Take the turn into Pescadero from PCH, and you'll see the unmistakable stagecoach tavern at the corner of the first light at Stage Road. Another clue you've arrived will be the many motorbikes, cars and trucks parked outside. We ordered breakfast take-out of french toast and eggs, fresh local sole, and hash browns, to take advantage of the empty benches at the beach and the nice weather. They included a couple of little tubs of Olallieberry jam and Strawberry Rhubarb jam, no doubt knowing that we'd be back after trying them! They were right. We're hooked -- both tasted field fresh, had little bits of fruit still swimming in the mixture, and made the wheat toast and butter better than the fish and eggs. We also sampled the pies and came away in agreement with the pundits that Duarte's Olallieberry (california blackberry) pie is amazing. I just wish we could've tried some of the others on offer that day (coconut cream sounded great). Great place, and a nice day out. Next time we'll have to try their famous abalone dinner. |
