Definitely on par with French Laundry. We did the 4 course with wine pairing, which is definitely the way to go. They will match whatever course you order with a half glass of wine. It really made a huge difference with the meal. I had the seared fois gras, the glazed oysters with osetra caviar, lemon herb duck breast and the baked chocolate souffle. All were really good. Tables are a little close together, but they are all situated very nicely so you don't feel like you're in the middle of the room. |

| | Wednesday 01st of December 2004 05:40:00 PM | | IMO the best restaurant in the Bay Area -- even better than that restaurant in Yountville!
Opted for the 4 course and ordered lobster and rock shrimp risotto, seared scallops w/butternut squash puree, shellfish red curry and rice, and chestnut montblanc with honey rum ice cream. I had tried both the risotto and dessert before, and they didn't disappoint. I'm not a huge shellfish fan, but the red curry was excellent. The scallops were perfectly cooked and seemed to have a natural sweetness, although that could've been the influence of the puree. Had the sommelier wine pairing again, which was perfect. We'll be back! |

| | Friday 28th of January 2005 02:47:30 PM | | Went again last night with a friend from out of town. Menu changed, but some dishes remained. Fortunately, the lobster and rock shrimp risotto was still on the menu. I ordered that again as appetizer and it was delicious as usual. They don't try to make it delicate, but hearty with deep flavors. I followed it with the mushroom dusted sea scallops with butternut squash puree which was also very good. The two scallops were plump and rare and tender inside. Pic of the classic risotto: |

| | Friday 28th of January 2005 03:13:31 PM | | Argh. That pic of the risotto could've been better. Steve ordered the glazed oysters with osetra caviar appetizer. He took a much better pic. My wife had the foie gras appetizer as she did before. |

| | Friday 28th of January 2005 03:35:03 PM | | For mains, the three of us chose different dishes: I had roasted quail with foie gras and mushroom stuffing, my wife had pan-seared ono with porcini cake, and Steve had the sauteed guinea hen breast with cardamom poached pears, which was recommended by the waiter. The consensus was that the stuffed quail was the best choice. Despite the stuffing, the meat retained its moisture and rich flavor. The foie gras were in chunks and added a good texture to the stuffing. Pic of wife's roasted pear and nutmeg icecream dessert: |

| | Tuesday 01st 2009 of September 2009 12:58:29 PM | | Still one of the best restaurants in SF. Prix fixe is a good deal, and surprisingly the 3 course is alot of food. Gets crowded too, especially by the bar. No place to wait for table to be ready. |
