One of the coolest, old tea houses in Rio, the Confeitaria Colombo was founded in 1894 with all of the old world charm and elegance from the time period. Beautiful stained glass ceiling looks down on two levels of seating. The first level has all of the pastries, teas and coffees from which to select. There's also a 'bar' area for quick eating, too. Brazilian coffee is great - like espresso - dark and flavorful. I also ate one of the custard tarts, a specialty of the portuguese and a pastry carried over to Brazil. This should definitely be on the list of things to visit in Rio.
